RUGBY IN TENBY

Tenby United RFC

Earliest press reports of rugby in the town date back to 1876 when there were several sides playing. In 1898 one of these, the Swifts, gained membership of the Welsh Football Union, as it was known in those far off days.

In 1901 an amalgamation of Tenby Swifts and Tenby Harlequins saw the formation of Tenby United and the club as it is today was born.

Rugby since those way off days has been played at varying levels within the evolving WRU league structure and today sees the club in ASDA 3 West with a Second XV playing in the Worthington Creamflow League. The senior teams are made up of many players that have progressed through the youth, junior and mini sections of the club and today, continuing that player conveyor belt, rugby is played from Under 8 through to and including Under 16's, as well as at Youth level. With a new coaching set-up across the club being reviewed and put in place by new head coach Neil Machin much is expected at all levels in season 2005-6.
